Get to Know Ravens Uganda!
Serious Facts about Ravens Uganda
Ravens Uganda is the volunteer-run, US-based nonprofit that supports the work of Ravens Ministries in Uganda—we are two arms of the same mission and this partnership allows more people to be a part of the wonderful work of transforming lives!
Right now, there are 47 Youth in the Ravens Ministries Youth Empowerment Program and over 80 Youth on the Ravens Waitlist.
To date, we have 26 Ravens Youth Alumni! Each of them has completed their basic education as well as higher academic or vocational training and is now employed or, for some of our most recent grads, is in the process of applying for jobs.
Fun Facts about Ravens Uganda
Many of our Ravens Youth are passionate bakers! Carrot cake and brownies are favorites. And one of our alumni is now a professional baker!
When Ravens Ministries founders Abel and Mildred visit the US (usually in the fall), the American treats they look forward to the most are BBQ and pumpkin spice tea.
Keeping with our food theme, what Ravens Uganda founder and director Deirdre misses most from Uganda (after the people, of course) are matoke—a mash or stew made with green bananas, tomatoes, onions, ginger, and other aromatics—and chapati, which is a delicious flatbread.
Get to Know Some of our Ravens Youth
Harriet was one of our first Ravens Youth graduates. She completed her degree in early childhood education in 2014 and got a teaching job right away. She has been able to support herself and live independently—and she quickly became a Ravens donor, supporting the next generation of young adults who need the resources and care Ravens Ministries offers. Now, eleven years later, she is still teaching and impacting young lives. Click here to read more of her story!
Grace is one of our newest Ravens Youth! She first applied in January 2022 and was placed on our waitlist (if you’d like to learn more about the waitlist, click here). We were thrilled when a spot opened up and Grace was able to begin law school in April of this year (2025). Grace’s dream is to advocate for and pursue justice for marginalized communities.
