July 2025: Meet Gerald and Vicky!

We are excited to have several Ravens Youth pursuing healthcare degrees right now. Over the last couple of emails, we have introduced you to Esther, and Faith, Joel, and Hanifah. Now for our final healthcare students, Gerald and Vicky!

Gerald is 24 years old and has a passion for saving lives. While he received love and support from his parents, the family struggled financially, making education a challenge for Gerald and his siblings.

Without access to education, Gerald's life was stuck in a holding pattern with no discernable path forward—until he was accepted into the Ravens Ministries Youth Empowerment Program. Gerald is now receiving educational support, reviving his dream of pursuing higher education.

Today, he's studying Medical Radiology, driven by a mission to give people hope for life. Gerald's passion for medical radiology stems from witnessing lives lost due to poor diagnosis. He believes accurate medical imaging can be the difference between life and death. With dedication and the right skills, Gerald aims to transform healthcare in his community.

Vicky was one of the Ravens Youth who attended the Nurses Heart to Heart day-long intensive training back in April.

At just 23 years old, Vicky is on a mission to revolutionize Uganda's healthcare system. She's pursuing a career in Medical Laboratory Techniques, driven by a deep-seated desire to prevent misdiagnosis and save lives.

Like Gerald, Vicky has witnessed the devastating consequences of medical errors, and she is determined to make a difference.

Vicky is the oldest child in a family of nine. Her parents are farmers and have faced increasing financial hardship. Vicky's education was placed on hold as the family struggled. Her grandmother was able to help keep Vicky in school for a time, but after her passing, Vicky could not afford to continue.

Vicky remained determined to follow her calling in medicine and she found hope through Ravens. Now she has secure support to complete her education and make a better life for herself, her siblings, and her community.

Today, Vicky is one step closer to realizing her vision: a future where patients receive accurate diagnoses and medical errors are minimized. With every lesson learned and laboratory procedure mastered, she's fulfilling her calling.
